Mathematics minor and major sequences

You need to plan your major and minor sequences in first year. Read the recommended pathways to assist you in the choice of units.

Minor sequence in mathematics

  • two of MTH1010, MTH1020, MTH1030, MTH1112, MTH2010 or STA1010, and
  • any 12 points from the MTH or STA units at level two or three, including ASP2062, ASP3012, ASP3051, ATM2020, ATM2030 and ATM3010.

Minor sequence in mathematics methods

  • either MTH1020, MTH1030, MTH2010 and MTH2032
  • or MTH1030, MTH2010, MTH2021 and MTH2032.

Major sequence in mathematics

  • a minor sequence in mathematics, and
  • up to six additional points from the MTH or STA units at level two, including ASP2062, ATM2020, ATM2030, and
  • at least 18 remaining points from the MTH or STA units at level three, including ASP3012, ASP3051 and ATM3010.

Major sequence in computational mathematics

  • either MTH1020 and MTH1030, or MTH1030 and MTH2010, and
  • MTH2051 or MTH3051 and MTH3060 plus any 24 points from MTH2010, MTH2021, MTH2032, MTH3011 or MTH3021, including at least 18 points at level 3

Major sequence in pure mathematics

  • either MTH1020 and MTH1030, or MTH1030 and MTH1112, and
  • at least 36 points from MTH2010, MTH2021, MTH2122 or MTH3122, MTH2140 or MTH3140, MTH3150, MTH3021 and MTH3132. A minimum of 18 points must be taken at level 3

Major sequence in applied mathematics

  • either MTH1020 and MTH1030, or MTH1030 and MTH2010, and
  • at least 36 points from MTH2010, MTH2021, MTH2032, MTH2051 or MTH3051, MTH3060, MTH3011, MTH3360. A minimum of 18 points must be taken at level 3

Mathematics
Pure mathematicians deal with the ideal, the beauty of perfection. They imagine the unimaginable. And magically, such constructions become the basis for applied mathematics to solve the most concrete problems.
