Atmospheric science minor and major sequences

You need to plan your major and minor sequences in first year. Read the recommended pathways to assist you in the choice of units.

These sequences are offered jointly by the School of Mathematical Sciences and the Department of Geography:

Minor sequence in atmospheric science

  • 12 points of science units at level one, including at least one of MTH1020 and MTH1030, and
  • at least two of ATM2020, ATM2211 and ATM2030

Major sequence in atmospheric science

  • a minor sequence in atmospheric science, and
  • 36 points of ATM units at levels 2 and 3, with at least 18 points at level 3

In addition to these requirements, students completing a major sequence in atmospheric science are required to have completed at least MTH1030 and MTH2010.

Atmospheric science
Will it rain on the weekend? Can we forecast the next El Nino? Is the climate changing? Our research in atmospheric science seeks to answer questions like these, and underscores the relevance of science to society. Atmospheric science is a modern interdisciplinary subject, drawing heavily on applied mathematics, fluid dynamics, physics, chemistry and computer science, and our research and graduate training programs are an exciting blend of field experiments, theoretical analysis, numerical modelling and data analysis.
