These talks will be self-contained presentations of mathematical concepts and theorems. They are intended to be accessible to all mathematics students.
 
 

The profound mysteries of quantum mechanics continue to puzzle and excite researchers. Here, we outline work which provides some windows on the quantum world, allowing us to peer a little more clearly into this strange domain. Specifically, we consider the following three problems:

• How can one reconstruct a complex quantum-mechanical wavefunction, given measurements of the modulus of the said wavefunction?
• How can one use mathematics ("computer spectacles") to reconstruct certain quantum wavefunctions, given image data obtained using distorted imaging systems such as a high-resolution electron microscope?
• How can image data allow one to measure the equations of evolution which are obeyed by a given quantum system?
