Circles, spheres, lines, planes and other amazing objects

Dr Maria Athanassenas
School of Mathematical Sciences

Circles are the simplest, most symmetric of curved objects. It is (almost embarrassingly) easy to remark, the smaller the circle, the more curved it is. This fact is in the heart of the fundamental notion of curvature, a quantity that will be the central theme of this talk.

We will consider curved (and of course not ... too curved, or "differently" curved) objects, their importance in everyday life and the excitement that they provide to lots of mathematicians.
