"Evariste Galois"
Hosted by Dr Mary Ross
School of Mathematical Sciences
Monash University
Evariste Galois is one of the truly romantic figures in mathematics. Having discovered the impossibility (in a certain sense) of solving high degree polynomial equations (what is now known as Galois Theory), he promptly got himself killed in a duel, at the age of 20. It is still debated whether the duel was primarily over a woman or was a byproduct of the revolutionary French politics of the time.
"Evariste Galois" is an extremely obscure short French film from
1965. It is all melodrama, no maths, and mostly fiction.
