These talks will be self-contained presentations of mathematical concepts
and theorems. They are intended to be accessible to all mathematics
students. Coffee, tea and drinks will be provided.

The Geometry of Soapfilms and Soapbubbles
Professor Klaus Ecker
Department of Mathematics & Statistics
Monash University
The beauty of soapfilm and soapbubble surfaces holds a fascination for
mathematicians and non-mathematicians alike. In this talk, we will highlight
some of the geometric features of these surfaces. In particular, we will
explain why even complicated soapbubble clusters exhibit very simple structures.
Connections to shortest network problems will be outlined.
