Measuring Equations

Suppose I show you a movie, of some people playing billiards. Given
such a movie, can you deduce the laws of Newtonian mechanics? Taking
this type of question a little further, one may enquire into the
possibility of deducing certain field equations of mathematics physics,
given that one has collected certain measurable quantities regarding
those fields. So, how do you "measure" the field equations of
physics?
