Photography in Special Relativity

Dr Leo Brewin
Mathematical Sciences
Monash University

We all know that weird things abound in the world of Special Relativity - length contraction, time dilation and the numerous paradoxes from those jet-setting twins. If that is not enough to curdle your noodle, there are other lesser known curiosities that may do the trick. In this talk I will present some computer generated images of how objects might appear, in a photograph, when the objects are moving at speeds close to the speed of light. I will also try to show how you might understand why these images appear as they do.
