Maximum principles and the astronaut's bathtub
Dr Maria Athanassenas
School of Mathematical Sciences
Monash University
We are going to worry about the optimal shape of the astronaut's bathtub...
An we will worry about liquid rising in a tube along the walls and spilling out of it "all by itself". Could this be a realistic situation?
All answers have to do with maximum principles, so come along and see some amazing pictures!
