Learning and Study Processes and Performance in Mathematics
Dr Malcolm Eley
CHED
Monash University
During 1999, using students from Monash and elsewhere, a set of
potential inventory scales were developed. These scales were intended
as a means for students to report on the learning and study processes
that they evoked in their mathematics studies. In first semester this
year those scales were trailed across a sample of five first year
subjects at Monash. The purpose was to refine further those inventory
scales, and to test their capability to predict eventual mathematics
performance, especially in detecting early those students potentially at
risk of failure. The seminar will report on the findings from this
recent work.
